Rick Stanton retired as a Detective from the Tampa Police Department after 24 years of service. Prior to joining the Tampa Police Department Rick worked for 3 years with the St. Petersburg Police Department and served 4 years in the United States Air Force where he was assigned to the National Security Agency.
Tampa Police Department Career in Chronological Order
- Retired in September 2002
- August 2000 to September 2002 assigned as a Corporal on a 10 man squad in Uniformed District One covering the west side of Tampa.
- April 1989 to August 2002 assigned to the Homicide Bureau as a Homicide Detective investigating Homicides, Suicides, Unexplained Deaths, Arsons and Police Officer Involved Shootings.
- January 1987 to April 1989 assigned to the Burglary Division conducting latent investigations in Tampa neighborhoods that included Davis Island, Hyde Park, Palma Ceia and Beach Park.
- December 1982 to January 1987 assigned as a Corporal on a 10 man squad in Uniformed District One covering the west side of Tampa.
- December 1982 Promoted to the rank of Corporal.
- December 1980 to December 1982 assigned as a Training Officer in Uniformed District One training recruits while patrolling the west side of Tampa.
- December 1978 to December 1980 assigned as a uniformed officer in Uniformed District One patrolling the west side of Tampa.
- September 1978 to December 1978 a recruit in the Tampa Police Academy.
As a homicide detective, Rick worked numerous high profile cases. Rick has overseen the collection of evidence at crime scenes; located and interviewed both witnesses and suspects. Rick has testified in countless Felony Trials, Suppression Hearings and on several occasions in front of the Grand Jury. Rick worked closely with several different law enforcement agencies and with the Attorney’s and Investigators from the Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office preparing for trials. Rick also worked with the City of Tampa Fire Marshalls and State of Florida Fire Marshalls as a member of the Arson Task Force and is a prior member of the Florida Homicide Investigators Association.

- Tampa Police Academy where he was the recipient of the “Award of Merit” for the outstanding recruit
- Interviews and Interrogations
- Media Legal Death Investigations put on by the Miami Dade Medical Examiner’s Office
- Criminal Profiling
- Blood Spatter Analysis
Rick is currently the Facility Security Officer for multiple companies that are involved in Government Contracting and has recently completed the following:
- Counterintelligence Domain Program that was put on by the FBI
- Joint Personnel Adjudication Systems (JPAS) and Joint Clearance and Access Verification Systems (JCAVS) Training.
